Pyrus ‘Flowering Pear’
Bradford Pear
OVERVIEW:
The Pyrus flowering pear, also known as the Bradford pear, is one of many ornamental pear cultivars. This drought and heat tolerant tree displays beautiful dark purple foliage with white flower clusters in fall and shiny, green attractive leaves in spring and summer. Its pyramidal shape when young, soon develops into a broad impressive canopy with age. Though highly adaptive, it’s best in well-drained soil with consistent moisture. Water deeply and regularly during the first growing season to establish an extensive root system; once established, reduce frequency. Feed with a general-purpose fertilizer before new growth begins in spring. Plant in full sun or partial shade, pruning annually for shape and structure.
