Patented and Trademarked Varieties

V & P Nurseries, in partnership with the late George Hull of Arizona State University, created many new cultivars of the popular xerophytic plant Genus Tecoma. Four such varieties are exclusive to our nursery with either patent, applied patent, or trademark protection.

  • Tecoma ‘Lydia’™️ - USPP24169P2  The Tecoma ‘Lydia’™️ is a dwarf variety of the popular Yellow Bells, Tecoma stans.  Lydia™️ has similar tubular flowers that are also yellow, albeit a lighter, paler yellow than those of the parent plant.  Growing only 3’ tall, Tecoma ‘Lydia’™️ is a perfect addition to smaller space such as a courtyard of pathway.

  • Tecoma ‘Sparky’™️ PPAF The Tecoma ‘Sparky’™️ is named for the sports mascot of Arizona State University and its name and likeness are protected by patent with the university.  The flowers of the Sparky are the same as the official colors of ASU, yellow blooms with an orange throat.  Additionally, it has a slighty smaller growth habit as the Tecoma stans, reaching heights of 4’ with a 3’ spread.

  • Tecoma ‘Sparklette’™️ The Tecoma ‘Sparklette’™️ is highlighted by bright yellow, tubular flowers with dark orange markings.  One of the larger cultivars to the Tecoma stans, Sparklette™️ can grow to 6’ tall with a 4’ spread.

  • Tecoma ‘Bells of Fire’™️ - USPP24170P2 The Tecoma ‘Bells of Fire’ has deep dark red tubular flowers, as the name would suggest, making it one of the more popular of the Tecoma cultivars.  Another larger variety, it too will reach heights of 6’ with a 4’ spread.

V&P Nurseries is also the exclusive grower of two types of desert trees.  Adapted for even the harshest climates, the Chilopsis ‘Rio Salado’ (desert willow) and the Prosopis ‘Rio Salado’ (thornless mesquite) make perfect shade or accent trees to all landscapes in the Southwest.
