Fraxinus uhdei

Shamel Ash

OVERVIEW:

The Shamel Ash, Fraxinus uhdei, is the only evergreen ash tree we grow at V&P.  Although in cases of extreme cold the shamel ash may lose some of its leaves it will maintain most of them and is thereby considered non-deciduous.  This fast-growing tree can reach heights of over 60 feet with a canopy spread of over 40 feet.  Its dark elongated dark green leaves and dark brown, almost black, bark make the shamel ash the perfect for consumers looking for a relatively cleaner option for an area near a swimming pool, pond, or hardscape surface.  They do however produce seed pods which can be a nuisance in the late Summer.
