Chilopsis linearis ‘Bubba’
Desert Willow
OVERVIEW:
Chilopsis linearis ‘Bubba’, more commonly known as the Desert Willow, is a fast-growing upright cultivar of desert willow. Compared to other selections it has a strong vertical form and is less shrubby with darker green leaves and more lush foliage than other desert willows. It typically grows to heights of 25 feet tall and has a spread of 20 feet wide. Starting in late spring and through the summer, fragrant two-toned burgundy and pink flowers emerge and are quickly followed by smooth brown seed pods. Like other desert willows ‘Bubba’ is drought tolerant and does great in full sun with low water maintenance. Prune frequently in early years to encourage fewer trunks, a single trunk, or to create a weeping willow effect.
